My objective was to render a diverse range of plants, from leafy to floral and vine-based varieties, in wire crochet. Material exploration in heat treatments and patinas created colours and textures on the copper wire, while the wire has been looped and moulded into shape, in order to accomplish an effect of three dimensionality and liveliness. Collaboration with computer engineer Luca Vivona adds a dynamic layer to my pieces, as hidden Arduinos pulse with LED lights, casting an enchanting glow that breathes life into the sculptures. These subtle illuminations dance within the framework of each structure, enhancing the interplay between light and form.
Completing the representation of domesticated plants, ceramic vases cradle a selection of botanical specimens – from the elegant Asiatic lily to the lush English ivy and the vibrant Croton. Photographer Kristen Chung captures the essence of my creations, presenting them in two distinct perspectives. The first, bathed in natural light, reveals the inherent grace of the wirework against the backdrop of the environment. In the second series, alternative lighting sources are employed to accentuate the intricate details of the wire's patinas and treatments, offering a new dimension to the viewer's experience.
