The coiled purse was created from strips of recycled orange and clear plastic bags from the Aboveground art supply store and cotton cord. Made for a class, exploring the limitations of coiling and materiality. Quite small and flexible as the cotton cord is not very stiff, this is a perfect size bag to fit the essentials. One of a kind, handmade piece in 2021.
The Lily pad hat was drafted based on a beret, lily pad flowers and was done in acrylic yarn. This passion project was entirely self-drafted and meant to push the sculptural aspects of crochet further. Done with beautifully silky deep green for the puffy beret and white and yellow for the flower. The flower petal ends were tacked down upon finishing, in order to prevent unsightly and unbalanced weight distribution when worn. Handmade and one of a kind.

This moss poncho was done with rather chunky deep green acrylic yarn, and worked on a large crochet hook to create an open lacy effect. Only gets fuzzier and more moss-like with use as the yarn wears slightly. Looks fantastic in casual daily wear or as part of a more fantastical look for special occasions. Handmade, from modified patterns.

The Hexagon shawl showcases multicolour psychedelic hexagons, drafted by myself for a wearables class. Inspired by the bright colours of African telephone wire baskets, each hexagon has a unique combination of colours. As no two hexagons are the same, achieving an appearance of randomness was actually quite methodical and could only be worked out once all hexagons had been laid out. This shawl looks best with a simple kilt pin neck closure but can be connected lower as well for those not fond of high necklines.

The kiwi vest was inspired by the colour blocking of the 70’s and born of a love for green and fruit. Handmade and drafted myself. Kiwi slice granny squares were drafted and tested, worked in the round while the solid green and brown squares were worked in stitched rows. Once all squares were completed, they were crocheted together with white. Features two hidden front pockets and made from acrylic yarn.

Mother Moth was inspired by a granny square of an evil eye and reworked the inciting pattern to become a hexagon with petals. From here, I created a poncho, with three different coloured eyes and petals. The combination of eye colours was calculated and placed strategically, with black bordering each eye flower. Once nearing completion, it struck me how much this looked like a biblically accurate angel or, as my sister jokes, a moth. Truly sometimes the best names come from absurdity and humour.
